Sky Sports’ Paul Merson has predicted Chelsea to be ‘big players’ in the Champions League next season after they clinched the Premier League trophy with two games to spare. Antonio Conte joined only three other managers to win the Premier League in their first season, alongside José Mourinho, Manuel Pellegrini and Carlo Ancelotti.

After a poor start to the season, Antonio Conte switched to a 3-4-3 and the rest is history. But it’s not over yet for Chelsea fans, as the Blues can complete the double by beating Arsenal in the FA Cup Final at Wembley.

With Chelsea’s Premier League winning season, comes Champions League qualification after the club missed out on it last year. Paul Merson believes under Antonio Conte’s guidance, Chelsea can be a force in Europe.

Speaking On Sky Sports News HQ, Merson said: “I think they’ll be big players in the Champions League next season, I really do.”

The former Arsenal man also revealed he believes Diego Costa will leave Chelsea at the end of the season for a switch to China, insisting the money offered to the Spaniard will be hard to turn down.

“From what we read in the paper, Diego Costa will be gone. He’s probably packed already if I’m being honest. For £670,000-a-week, or whatever it is, it’s hard to turn down.”
