Chelsea Set To Launch Bid For Juventus’ Alex Sandro

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is considering a bid for Juventus’ Brazilian wingback Alex Sandro. Chelsea are currently clear at the top of the Premier League and have only lost on two occasions in the league this season. However, with the competition in the Premier League at its strongest for many years, Conte is reportedly keen to bring in reinforcements.
Currently, Sandro’s left wing back position is occupied by Marcos Alonso. The Spaniard has surprised many with his consistency this season after his Summer move from Fiorentina but he is currently Chelsea’s only player in that position. Alex Sandro would likely start for Chelsea despite Alonso’s performances but the former Sunderland man would offer stern competition and a solid back up to Brazilian.
Sandro joined Juventus from FC Porto in the Summer of 2015 for a fee of £22m and his contract runs until 2020 so any deal would likely be expensive. However, Chelsea are not short on money having sold Sandro’s compatriot Oscar for £50m to Shanghai SIPG. Reports speculate that the deal would cost Chelsea approximately £34m which would make him the most expensive full-back in history, surpassing the £30m Manchester United paid for Luke Shaw.
He has made 17 Serie A appearances this season, making 3 assists and scoring once. However, in the recent Supercoppa Italiana defeat to AC Milan, Sandro was taken off injured and there is no confirmation on the severity of the injury and Juventus are set to offer him a new contract running until 2021. Whether a deal is likely to happen or not is difficult to say this early.
