Chelsea are on the verge of signing Swansea City striker Fernando Llorente, the London Evening Standard say. The Italian was close to completing a move to Stamford Bridge in January, but with Swansea’s chances of the Premier League looking slim, the Italian chose to stay at the club and help them clinch survival.

The negotiations between the clubs increased yesterday and Paul Clement is already targeting Manchester City’s Wilfried Bony to replace their target man. Not to forget, the Welsh club also signed Tammy Abraham on a season-long loan from Chelsea and the 19-year-old is likely to be the focal point of Clement’s side.

The Evening Standard say Chelsea were quoted a fee of £30m to sign Llorente, but following his help in maintaining the club’s Premier League status, he may be moved on for less than £15m. Everton were also said to be interested in signing the 32-year-old, however, a reunion with Antonio Conte is the preferred destination for Llorente.

With the arrival of Álvaro Morata and the likely sale of Diego Costa, Llorente will likely be the back-up to Morata at the Blues. However, Michy Batshauyi, who had already grown frustrated at his lack of game time last season, will now have to compete with an extra addition for a place in the starting lineup. With Newcastle reportedly interested in the Belgian, a loan move may be on the cards for the 23-year-old if Llorente makes the switch to London.
