Liverpool faced German side TSG Hoffenheim in a Champions League play-off tie on Tuesday on Tuesday night with Jürgen Klopp going head-to-head with old colleague Julien Nagelsmann. The Reds boss named an unchanged side from Saturday’s 3-3 draw with Watford, meaning 18-year-old Trent Alexander-Arnold would be making his Champions League debut.

The youngster made an impression on Saturday, deputizing for the absent Nathaniel Clyne. Alexander-Arnold made his debut under Jürgen Klopp last season and is highly-rated by the Merseyside club.

On his Champions League debut on Tuesday night, the academy graduate walked up and scored a stunning free-kick to put Liverpool ahead in the tie.

It takes some stones to step up and take a free kick ahead of senior players like Firmino and Mané, but the young full back was unfazed as he struck a beautiful free kick past the Hoffenheim goalie. The youngster sent Twitter into a meltdown and Steven Gerrard was quick to praise Arnold at half-time insisting he ‘always wants to improve’.
