Borussia Dortmund have released a statement in response to reports that Ousmane Dembélé had completed a move to Barcelona this afternoon. Dembélé, who has been widely thought to be Neymar’s successor, was not in attendance at the German clubs training session this morning, with manager Peter Bosz insisting they ‘could not reach him’.

It comes in a chain of events after the 20-year-old had a spat with Dortmund keeper Roman Bürki during a training session that was then posted on Twitter. A similar incident occurred between Neymar and Nélson Semedo days before the Brazilian left for the riches of Paris Saint-Germain to become the world’s most expensive player.

In an attempt to halt reports suggesting Dembélé had completed a move to Spain, Dortmund released a statement which reads:

“Borussia Dortmund has held talks with FC Barcelona regarding the possible transfer of the BVB player Ousmane Dembélé to FC Barcelona.”

“During this meeting, the representatives of FC Barcelona submitted a bid which did not correspond to the player’s extraordinary footballing and other abilities nor to the present economic market situation of the European transfer market. BVB therefore rejected this offer.”

“As there is no other offer from FC Barcelona to date, there is currently no transfer of the player to FC Barcelona and this is not currently likely.”
