Bournemouth: Disbanding The Fringe Players

With the 2016-17 season promising to be one of the most competitive Premier League seasons in recent history, AFC Bournemouth need to massively improve their squad in order to survive the coming relegation battle. In order to do this some players will need to be moved on to other clubs, either because they are simply not good enough or because the financial benefit of selling them outweighs the benefits of keeping them at the club. Here, I will examine who should be sold in order for Bournemouth to stay competitive in the Premier League.
Eunan O’Kane: The Irish midfielder has been at Bournemouth for what seems like an eternity and has shown no real signs of developing into a player capable of playing at the highest level. While this might seem like a harsh judgement of a player that is still relatively young, you just need to have watched his cameo appearances this past season to see that he has not got the ability required to play for a Premier League team. He is clearly a creative player, but lacks the strength and physicality that is needed in order to dominate the midfield in the Premier League. Saying that, O’Kane is not atrocious by any stretch of the imagination and any number of Championship teams would be interested in signing him.
Junior Stanislas: While it is true that Stanislas had a somewhat decent season, there have been times this season where he has proved to be something of a liability. Several half time substitutions are testimony to this. Similarly to O’Kane, Stanislas is definitely not a terrible player but certainly falls short of requirements and there will certainly be no shortage of clubs interested in signing the winger. If Stanislas was to leave he would certainly remain long in the memories of Bournemouth fans for his incredible corner goal against Manchester United and his late, late leveler against Everton.
Lewis Grabban: Amongst many Bournemouth fans it is a bit of a mystery why we re-signed the striker after selling him to Norwich several seasons before. It would be an even bigger mystery if we were to keep him after he did literally nothing in his several appearances following his second coming. Norwich must have been laughing all the way to the bank after somehow managing to make an estimated profit of around £3 million from selling him back to Bournemouth. As much as us Bournemouth fans love Eddie Howe, surely we have to admit that Eddie was off the mark with this signing. Grabban needs to be sold ASAP, even though we will certainly make a sizeable loss on our investment.
Lee Tomlin: Lee Tomlin’s time at Bournemouth has been nothing short of a car crash. From complaining on Twitter about a lack of game time to being shipped off on loan to Bristol City, it will come as no surprise that Tomlin has been strongly linked with a permanent move away from the South Coast. Serious doubts about his fitness combined with several anonymous performances have led to the question being asked as to whether he is good enough to play in the Premier League. Currently, it is looking extremely likely that he will join Bristol City on a permanent basis and not many Bournemouth fans will be devastated to see the former Middlesborough man leaving.
There are several other players that I have not mentioned that are almost definitely going to be leaving the club, such as South African striker (and cult hero) Tokelo Rantie, but if you feel that there are other players that should be moved on by the club make sure to leave a comment as to who should leave, or if you feel that these players should be kept on by the club.
