Aston Villa v Tottenham Hotspur – Match preview

Aston Villa host visitors Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday 13th March. After a very disappointing 3-0 loss on Thursday against Dortmund, Spurs are looking to bounce back with a big win at Villa park. There was some controversy over the lineup picked by Mauricio Pochettino. It was a rather weakened team which saw Spurs fans very upset with such a heavy defeat despite key players being rested for the Premier League game on Sunday. Pochettino resting his key players on Thursday clearly sent out an important message that he is prioritizing the Premier League and it looks very unlikely they will qualify for the next round of the Europa League.

Aston Villa come into this game losing 5 of their last 6 games with a most recent 4-0 thrashing at Manchester City last Saturday.

It seems very likely that Villa will be playing their football in the championship next season being 9 points away from safety. Whereas Tottenham come into the game with 2 wins 3 losses and a draw in their last 6 games in all competitions. Spurs have lost none of their last eight trips to Villa park in all competitions. Winning 6 and drawing 2.

Team news and predicted lineups: (Aston Villa) Remi Garde is expected to choose the same squad that lost 4-0 to Manchester City last Saturday. Ongoing injuries to the Villa squad are: Carlos Sanchez (hamstring) Jack Grealish and Libor Kozak (both ankle) are still sidelined while Charles N’Zogbia remains out of Garde’s plans despite being fit.

Alongside the return of Dele Alli, Eric Dier is hoping to shake off a knock in time for the game at Villa park. Danny Rose sat out Thursday’s defeat to Dortmund in Germany with a sore calf and will be assessed whereas Jan Vertonghen and Clinton N’Jie are both still out with long-term ankle injuries.
