5 Players Which Must Leave Aston Villa

After Aston Villa announced their first signing of the summer in Tommy Elphick yesterday, its clearly opened the floodgates for more players to join the club within the next few weeks, but will also open the door for many of the players to leave. And with their relationships with the fans, these could be the first 5 who leave the club.
Joleon Lescott – Was one of the summer signings Villa fans were happy about the most last season, despite joining from local rivals West Brom. Lescott, 33, who was a boyhood Villa supporter excited Villa fans as they were able to see another ‘one of their own’ don the infamous Claret and Blue jersey. However, their relationship would deteriorate with the centre-back within the next few months.
After many awful performances by the team, many individuals were called out, with Lescott being one of the most notable. His relationship with the fans would grow even more risky after he posted a photo of a sports-car on his Twitter page after his side lost 6-0 to Liverpool at home. He received a mammoth of abuse from Villa fans online, just to say that his phone must of accidentally tweeted it from his pocket, despite his brother earlier saying his phone was hacked. The bond with Lescott and the Villa faithful would grow even worse after he said ‘It’s a weight off our shoulders’ after they were relegated in April.
Due to these silly remarks which the former England international and Premier League Champion has said, he’s received lots and lots of abuse, with the Villa fans coming up with chants mocking what he’s said and what he’s done, but humorously. Villa fans can’t wait to wave goodbye to their former captain, but it might be a completely different gesture than a wave…
Brad Guzan – The American international goalkeeper has cost Aston Villa many points and games this season. Guzan, 31, has been at Aston Villa for eight years, spending half the time as a back up ‘keeper to both Brad Friedel and Shay Given.
However, Villa fans would wish they still had them two shot-stoppers now, as Guzan’s performances last season were truly dreadful. His decision making, which he had improved from 2012-2014 had seemed to be reminiscent of the Guzan which was second choice ‘keeper for many years.
Guzan infuriated Villa fans a couple of months ago, after he tweeted about his new goalkeeping academy, which due to his poor performances of late, wasn’t called for.
Micah Richards – The former Premier League winner and Man City fan favourite Richards had a first season to forget as an Aston Villa player, and the Villa supporters will be hoping its his last one as well. Richards, 27, was appointed Villa captain last summer by Tim Sherwood.
His poor performances and arguments with Villa fans online made him one of the players they hated most, which was different from how he was treated at City.
Gabby Agbonlahor – You wouldn’t expect to hear that a clubs record Premier League goal-scorer would be hated by the fans, but it’s justified with Aston Villa and Gabriel Agbonlahor. Agbonlahor, 29, hasn’t showed his best in 6 years, when he was one of Villa and England’s best young prodigies.
Agbonlahor, is now given nicknames by Villa supporters such as ‘flabby’ and ‘lazy’ due to his work-rate and the extra weight he seems to carry compared from the old Gabby Agbonlahor. In the last 6 years, Agbonlahor has only managed 26 goals, which he beat in under 3 seasons with Martin O’Neill’s tenure as Aston Villa’s boss.
Leandro Bacuna – Finally Villa’s only ever Curacaoan international, and hopefully the last. The versatile player, angered Villa supporters after saying he’s worthy of champions league football. Similarly to Lescott, he also called out a fan abusing him online, and was believed to smile when Villa were relegated at Old Trafford.
