As the most highly anticipated Premier League season in years beings, there seems to be more clubs than ever looking to push for a title shot in what could be the most competitive season ever.
In this article I will be looking at these contenders and giving my opinion on who will and won’t be launching a serious title shot this season.
The 20 times champions of England have been without a serious title race since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013, however this seasons with the players recruited, and the changing in staff they look like they could be serious contenders to be top of the Premier League come May.
United have captured one of the best and most proven Managers in the world in Jose Mourinho, after sacking Louis van Gaal earlier in the Summer. The Portuguese coach has had a very busy Summer in which he has signed many proven world class players, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Paul Pogba to name a few, this rejuvenated attacking line a long with United’s proven very solid defence is surely going to be a force to be reckoned with this season on all fronts.
Another team in Manchester that looks set to be a force in the Premier League this upcoming season are Manchester City.
City have also made huge changes at their club this Summer and look set to launch a new era under Pep Guardiola, who has also spent large amounts of money already this Summer recutuing the likes of Leroy Sane, to bolster City’s attacking line, and also splashed £50,000,000 on former Everton defender John Stones, to help cover their defensive vulnerabilities.
The blue side of Manchester are also a team that have struggled recently, and only just managed to scrape top 4 last season, causing big changes at the club, and like United are looking very good for the upcoming 9 months of the season.
Antonio Conte is another big name Manager look set to launch a new era in the Premier League, however this time outside of Manchester, and at Chelsea.
Chelsea had a hugely disappointing season last time round, finishing nowhere near where they would have been hoping to after winning the league the year before, and despite spending a lot less than the Manchester clubs so far this Summer, they still have one of the best squads in the league.
A player that could be rejuvenated under Antonio Conte, and act like a new signing to Chelsea, could be Eden Hazard, who will be looking to discover his form of 2015, in which he won the PFA Player Of The Year award, if he was able to rediscover this form it would surely give Chelsea and even greater chance of becoming the team to lift the title come May.
Outsiders for the title
Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspurs are all teams that, looking at their current squad, could be pushing for that all important 4th spot, giving Champions League football for the next season. However any of these could possibly mount a title challenge given their players stay fit and they hit good form for large amounts of the season.
Liverpool looked very good going forward on the first game of the season, however still look to have a very leaky defence which could cost them dearly when looking to launch a title shot.
Arsenal could have the complete opposite problem to Liverpool, once everybody is back fit they will look to have a very solid defence infront of experienced keeper Petr Cech, however will need to sign a Striker in the closing stages of the transfer window in order to have any chance of being in the very top places of the Premier League come May.
The likes of Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspurs, despite fnishing first and third last season, could struggle in putting together another serious title shot as ever other team has vastly improved, mean whilst Pochettino and Ranieri have stuck with very similar squads.
