Manchester United And Arsenal Set To Battle It Out For Senegalese International

Manchester United and Arsenal are set to battle it out for Everton’s Idrissa Gueye, according to the Metro.
The Senegalese International joined Everton for £9m, jumping ship from the relegated Aston Villa. Since joining the Toffee’s, Gueye has impressed alongside Morgan Schneiderlin at Goodison Park this season, drawing comparisons with Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante.
The 27-year-old has reportedly also attracted interest from both Sevilla and Valencia, but it’s highly unlikely Gueye would wish to move abroad after only just settling in Liverpool. José Mourinho and Arsène Wenger, who have a very rocky relationship, are set to battle it out for the defensive midfielder, with Wenger planning on staying at Arsenal for at least one more year.

If true, it’s a strange one given José Mourinho had let Morgan Schneiderlin, a similar player to Gueye, leave in January. However, with Michael Carrick’s career running it’s course and United’s poor results at home this season. It will be interesting to see if Gueye is tempted, given Everton receive an offer for his services. But as Everton look set to lose Romelu Lukaku in the summer, it’s highly unlikely they’ll let another player out of their sights.
