Alan Shearer Blasts “Very Sloppy” Arsenal And Claims Mesut Özil “Wasn’t Up For It”

Alan Shearer has blasted Arsene Wenger’s side as being “very leggy, very tired and very sloppy” in their 1-1 draw at Old Trafford yesterday. Arsenal managed to grab an equalizer with their only solid attempt on goal, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain whipping in a cross that Oliver Giroud powered past David De Gea, after Juan Mata’s opener for the home side.
Speaking after the game on BBC’s Match of the Day, the former Newcastle striker held little back as he commented on the Gunners’ performance.
“I didn’t think they played well at all, they were very poor for the vast majority of the game. They looked very leggy, very tired, very sloppy,” said Shearer.
“In fact, a lot of passes went astray. Slow to the ball, slow to react… and it wasn’t just three or four players, it was every single player that started for Arsenal today that I thought had a poor game”
He then went on to pick out German midfielder Özil for extra criticism, claiming that the German had looked tired and not up for the game.
“Even this guy, Özil, who has been brilliant for all the season looked really tried, wasn’t up for it today and it was mistake after mistake.”
Mesut Özil’s performance at Old Trafford in yesterday’s early kick-off has been mocked by rival fans on social media, who believe the German doesn’t turn up for big games. The 28-year-old has added goals into his game at Arsenal this season and whilst the midfielder remains in goalscoring form, Arsenal best make the most of it if they’re serious in their title bid this season.
