Arsenal Newcastle News Transfer Rumours

Following Newcastle’s 2-0 triumph against Hellas Verona, The Magpies’ boss Rafa Benítez revealed to reports that they were interested in signing Arsenal’s wantaway striker Lucas Pérez.

Despite joining the Gunners just short of a year ago in a £17 million transfer from Deportivo de La Coruña, the Spanish forward was forced to play limited matches for the Gunners, whilst only making two starting appearances in Premier League fixtures.

The lack of playing time certainly frustrated the player, who always put in good performances when awarded the opportunity to do so. However, following the arrival of Alexandre Lacazette for around £45 million and the club reportedly not informing Pérez about his squad number being taken from him, he has pushed for a move away.

The 28-year old was quoted saying: “The thing of taking the shirt number without telling me to give it to a companion, it seems to me the last straw.”

Seemingly intent on departing the English giants this summer, Newcastle are currently leading the chase for the player’s signature, with Benítez admitting to reporters: “I like the player because I have good friends in A Coruna, I know that he did really well. He’s come here and not played in many games, but I like the player.”
