Confirmed: Dimitri Payet IS Better than Mesut Ozil

It’s been one of the biggest running debates throughout this Premier Leauge season. Signing for West Ham back in June from French side Marseille, Payet made his Premier League debut against Arsenal, during the opening weekend fixtures. Dimitri provided his first assist in England just 42 minutes into the match, when he whipped in an inch perfect cross to find Cheikhou Kouyate’s head, who leapt from the penalty spot to beat Petr Cech from the free kick.
Dimitri Payet has showcased his skills and flair on many occasions this season, often making it onto many highlight reels. The Frenchman, a £10million signing, has left many pundits speechless after a number of individual performances. Most notably after the 2-1 away victory at The Etihad, when Jamie Redknapp announced on Saturday Night Football watching Dimitri Payet play football makes him want to buy a West Ham season ticket.
Mesut Ozil has had his best season at Arsenal this term without a doubt, providing 18 assists, 2 away from the record set by Thierry Henry, while scoring 5 league goals in the process too. Many people are saying Mesut needs to be adding goals to his game, which is a bit unfair considering how many chances he has created for Arsenal single handily.
On the 3rd March the “London Football Awards” 2016 took place in Battersea. Several different awards were awarded on this night, such as ‘Young Player of The Year’ and ‘Football League Player of The Year’ but the award we all concentrated on was ‘Premier Leauge Player of The Year’. In this category the nominees were Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil, Chelsea’s Willian, Tottenham’s Harry Kane, Watford’s Odion Ighalo and of course, West Ham’s Dimitri Payet.
The pannel at the LFA’s who decide the outcome of the awards consist of a number of expert journalists, representatives of all 15 professional London based clubs and former players. The pannel concluded that Dimitri Payet was the ‘Premier League Player of The Year’ after scoring 9 goals and providing 8 assists and was handed his first personal award of the season. A chuffed Payet and went on to say:
“It is of course an honour and a great joy for me to receive this award after only one season here, It’s the first time in my career that I have received a personal award like this. Last year, I won Best Passer in Ligue 1, but this is the first time I have been named best player”
“Being recognised like this after only one season here is particularly special, especially when I saw the nominations for this award. They are all great players and vital to each of their clubs, so that gives even more value to this award”
“I hope that this can be start of lots of trophies, especially for the team, because the team is always the most important.”
Dimitri Payet posted the following message on Instagram following his personal award:
I am very honoured and proud to receive this trophy tonight. I would like to thank all those who selected me. When I look at the list of nominees they are all excellent players from excellent clubs. It makes this trophy even more special. I would like to say thank you to my club West Ham and all those who work there every day. My coach Slaven Bilic as well as all the team. Without them I wouldn’t be here. Of course a special thank you to all hammer supporters. Finally, I would like to dedicate this trophy to my wife, present tonight as well as our 3 gorgeous sons, my parents and all those close to us in good and more difficult times.
Thank You to all of you!!!
