Arsenal midfielder Mesut Özil has revealed his future depends on Arséne Wenger staying at the club, and he will not extend his contract without knowing the future of the Frenchman.
Özil, who’s contract expires in 18-months, has been one of Arsenal’s main stars since he joined the club in 2013 and has been in the middle of speculation, along with team-mate Alexis Sanchez, over not signing a new contract as of yet. But the German Internation has revealed if he extends his deal, it will be on the basis of current boss Arséne Wenger extending his contract too.
Speaking to German magazine, Kicker, he revealed:
“I am very, very happy at Arsenal and have let the club know that I would be ready to sign a new contract. The fans want that I stay and now it is just down to the club.”
“The club knows that I am here most of all because of Arsène Wenger. He is the one who signed me and he is the one whose trust I have. The club also knows that I want to be clear what the manager is going to do in the future.”
“Everyone has a right to say what they want but what they have to say doesn’t interest me,” he said. “Ex-players or other people who have a view don’t know what is actually being said between me and the club.”
