According to a report from French paper L’Equipe, Lille are concerned about the potential sale of the young, highly rated winger Soufiane Boufal. This is because of his he’s still recovering from an injury he got whilst playing a game against Lorient. He’ll also undergo a second operation in September.
Lille are worried that clubs will look elsewhere for new targets as Boufal isn’t expected to be fit until September. They’re worried clubs won’t want to risk buying a player who’s had no preseason training after a big injury.
Lille are keen to cash in on the 22 year old because of money problems and by selling Boufal it would allow them to steer clear of a transfer embargo.
Boufal has recently spoken about his situation and has admitted that he could stay in Lille and he’s ‘Not Obsessed’ about moving to pastures new.
Here’s what he told L’Equipe:
“I’m not second-guessing myself right now,” the 22-year-old, who bagged 11 goals and laid on five more for his team-mates in season 2015-16, “I should be back in action in September and, at worst, I could miss a maximum of three matches, depending on which league I’m playing in. That’s not a huge deal. And anyway, I’m not worried because I would have no problem staying on with Lille. I’m not obsessed with leaving. I’m focusing on healing up and if I have to stay in Lille, I will do so with great pleasure.”
A host of clubs are monitoring the boufal sale including Barcelona, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs and Southampton are all very interested. However most clubs will be put off by Boufal’s current injury.
Where do you think Boufal will be playing his football next season?
