Arsenal have completed the signing of Olympique Lyonnais striker Alexandre Lacazette for a reported fee of £44 million alongside a further estimated £6 million in add-ons. This fee means that the Frenchman has become the Gunners new, record-breaking signing, surpassing playmaker Mesut Özil’s transition to the club in 2013 for a fee of £42.5 million.

The 26-year-old will hope to bolster Arsenal’s attacking threat, who have struggled with a consistent forward ever since the departure of Robin van Persie to Manchester United six years ago. The forward had his best season in a Lyon shirt last season, scoring 37 goals in 45 appearances in all competitions.

The announcement of the Lacazette solidifies himself as Arsène Wenger’s second signing of the summer transfer window, who also convinced Schalke left-back Sead Kolašinac to join the North London side on a free contract. The forward will feature in all of the Gunner’s pre-season, which will give fans the opportunity to watch how he links up with his new teammates – particularly the formerly mentioned Mesut Özil.

The club will also announce the 26-year-old’s new shirt number soon, with many suspecting he will take the number 9 shirt from reported outgoing Lucas Perez.
