Arsenal News Transfer Rumours

Despite speculation, Arsène Wenger has recently confirmed that French-club Marseille have not yet submitted a bid for Arsenal’s backup striker Olivier Giroud. The Frenchman recently signed a new contract at the North London club, with the Arsenal manager adamant to sell the forward.

Recent reports from a variety of different outlets have revealed that Marseille were interested in signing Giroud in the summer and would offer up to £25 million to sign their target. The club would hope that playing more regular football back in Ligue 1, where Giroud formerly played with Montpellier, would be enough to achieve his signature.

Speaking in a press conference, the manager revealed: “I have had no approach from Marseille and we want to keep Olivier Giroud at the club.”

Wenger also went on to comment about Arsenal’s summer transfer activity as well as the rejection they faced last season following their failed pursuit of Leicester striker Jamie Vardy:

“Transfer targets are the future of the club and therefore they are very important. What happens with me is a bit secondary, what is important is the future of the club.”

“Some transfers are successful and some are not and you have to accept the decision of the player involved,  I respect completely the decision he made and you move forward and onto other things.”

“I don’t think we could have done anything more. We did what we wanted to do. He would have been one of the strikers we would have had available and you can’t guarantee that when you move to a big club.”
