Arsenal are in advanced talks to sign Valencia centre-back, Shkodran Mustafi, according to Sky Deutschland.
The 24-year-old has emerged as Arsenal’s number one target as Arsene Wenger looks to bolster his defensive options. After Per Mertesacker sustained a lengthy injury this week Wenger conceded that the Gunners would need to sign an “experienced” centre-half.
The young German international has a release clause of €50 million, although it is understood that Valencia are willing to let him go for around €30 million. Mustafi trained today for the first time since he played a bit-part role in Germany’s Euro 2016 campaign and his representatives are believed to have flown to Spain to discuss the transfer fee with Valencia.
The promising defender is highly rated highly in Valencia, having played 61 league matches for the Spanish outfit as well as making 12 appearances for his national side.
Mustafi has previously featured in England, having played for Everton’s academy team, while going on to make 1 appearance for the Toffees in the Europa League. Many regard him as an incredibly accomplished defender and would most likely partner Laurent Koscielny in the heart of Arsenal’s defence if he were to sign for the North London side.
