Arsenal To Offer Giroud In Higuain Swap Deal?

According to recent reports Arsene Wenger will make Gonzalo Higuain his top priority in his continued search for a world class striker to bolster Arsenal’s attacking options. The Arsenal manager is reportedly looking to cash in on Olivier Girouds Euro 2016 form for France by offering him to Serie A side Napoli along with cash to make up Higuain’s £78,000,000 release clause which he is not willing to pay as one sum. Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri added more fuel to the rumours on Sunday evening when he was spotted at the Stade de France, presumably watching the Arsenal target man.
However, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Tancredi Palmeri), even with Giroud included in the deal, Wenger would still have to shell out £50,700,000 in cash for last seasons Serie A golden boot winner:
Although this is may be considered quite a hefty fee for a player fast approaching 29, he is a player of incredible quality and may be just what Arsenal need to mount a title charge in what could be Arsene Wengers last season at the club. Arsenal have needed a prolific goalscorer ever since Robin Van Persie left the club in 2012 and despite his best efforts, Giroud just hasn’t fit the bill. Van Persie scored 37 goals in all competitions in his final season at Arsenal while Giroud hasn’t even consistently passed 20. As late as Wenger might be, Higuain would be the perfect man to fill RVP’s boots and spearhead Arsenal to their first league title in 12 years! The Napoli man bagged 40 goals in 40 games last season across all competitions, earning an average match rating of 7.74 (via WhoScored.com).
Although his Copa America performances weren’t the best, Higuain would clearly be a massive upgrade on Giroud, who has never managed more than 16 goals in a Premier League season, and often finds himself not scoring for long periods. Gonzalo Higuain is an extremely talented striker who finds the back of the net consistently and would fit right in to the Arsenal set up.
However, it is far from likely that this deal will go through. Despite his frustrating inconsistency in form and numerous missed chances, Olivier Giroud is a key member of the Arsenal squad and will most likely remain at the club for the foreseeable future regardless of a new striker coming to the club. He may not be the best goalscorer on the planet, but Giroud is integral to the Arsenal play style and is the main link between the teams midfield and attack, holding up the ball and flicking it on to create chances for others around him as well as himself.
If Gonzalo Higuain is to become an Arsenal player during this transfer window, then it will more than likely be in a deal that doesn’t include the departure of any of Arsene Wenger’s key men, especially Olivier Giroud who plays in an area that already lacks depth at the club.
