Arsenal AS Monaco News Transfer Rumours

Arsenal are reportedly set to smash Paul Pogba’s £89m transfer fee with a bid for AS Monaco sensation Kylian Mbappé. The 18-year-old’s father, Wilfried, has reportedly spoken with Arsène Wenger, and according to the Mirror, Wenger told him that Mbappé will earn more minutes at Arsenal than he would at Real Madrid.

Mbappé is said to be ‘obsessed’ with the Champions League, and a move to Madrid would make of winning it much more likely, but ahead of the FIFA World Cup in Russia next year, if the Frenchman struggles for minutes at the Bernabéu, a place in the starting eleven for France could be off the cards.

It’s unlikely Arsenal would be able to fund both moves for Mbappé and Alexandre Lacazette, who, if reports are to be believed, has agreed personal terms with the North-London club in the past few days. Along with a move for AS Monaco’s Thomas Lemar, who’s asking price is believed to be around £35m, Arsène Wenger seems to be planning for life after Alexis Sánchez by plotting a French overhaul.

Given Mbappé does arrive at the Emirates, it will see the world record fee, currently set by Paul Pogba at £89m, smashed by £36m for the Monaco’s academy graduate. After one season at the highest level, it’s fair to say £125m could be an extortionate sum given the player is so young, however, under Arsène Wenger’s guidance, it could be Déjà vu at Arsenal with the Frenchman being the Gunners new Thierry Henry.
